Bunny Skull Write-up - CUTSEW 028 // BUNNY SUIT
Story time: I was feeling pretty burnt out cosplay wise after Colossalcon East; I didn’t finish most of the costumes I wanted to make last year and wasn’t happy with any of the work I was producing. I knew I wanted to take a small break rom cosplay and conventions after Colossalcon East but was still unsure about going to Anime NYC.
I was on the phone with Arielle and Alyssa when Anime NYC was brought up and I decided to browse the site and take a look at the guests that would be there.
The moment I saw that Ryuji’s voice actor was attending I decided that I was definitely going and that I definitely wanted to make Ryuji related costume. I’m pretty sure I bought tickets for a flight while still on the phone (thank you frequent flyer points).
I initially “joked” about a bunny suit inspired by Ryuji’s phantom thief outfit but...to be honest I wasn’t really joking and just wanted an excuse to go through with it and...Anime NYC was my excuse.
I already had CUT/SEW’s bunny suit pattern for a while but haven’t been able to use it. I actually also had two other bunny suit patterns on hand but after taking a quick glance at the instructions for CUT/SEW’s pattern I decided to use theirs instead. There’s only four whole panels! AMAZING!
The other patterns I had on hand had more panels for the bunny suit, which would actually make for a better fit but I didn’t find modifying CUT/SEW’s pattern too difficult. I started with a mockup - I had to make some changes to the bust, crotch, and sides - I marked where I had to make changes below:
I initially sewed a lining that would have spiral steel boning but due how thin the outer vinyl was, the boning would show through. I decided to forgo the boning and opted for lining without boning. I also ended up not sewing bra cups into the lining either since my modifications to the bust made the fit kind of weird.
I wanted to make little bunny ears for this costume but didn’t have time - I’ll be finishing those and making a few adjustments when I wear it again to Anime Boston this year!

Prop metal pipe is from Spirit Halloween

I’ll be making changes to this costume and add more to it for Anime Boston this year - you can follow me on twitter where I post WIPs more frequently! Also eel free to reach out if you have any questions about this costume!
